After answering more questions about why I didn’t pick other restaurants
11 Snomads headed to the Tanglewood in for Dinner at 5:30. Merle Fitch Jr
and his crew of six advised they would head that way in a few. Trail 7 north
was still in great shape. I stopped and made sure I had everyone, and we
went east on trail 8 to Shingleton. Trail 8 was still in excellent shape also
and the 13 miles to The Tanglewood went by quickly.

Dennis was a great host and dinner was served quickly for the size of our
group. Just about the time we were finishing dinner Merle and his group of
5 came in. Merle explained that Paul Reed’s helmet shield was icing over
and he had to head back to the hotel. My group headed back with full bel-
lies and just before Stutts Creek Bridge had to move over to let the Groom-
er pass by. Yeah, you guessed it--fresh groomed back to the Buckhorn.
I got back and started making the rounds, looking for ride leaders for Fri-
day’s groups to Grand Marais. Russ Demers, Lenny Dicks and Dave Gabriel
offered to lead groups. Everyone was told there would be a ride meeting at
8:15 by the breakfast room. Some had not made it in yet due to the weath-
er, so I had to catch and advised them in the am. Merle and his group made
it back from dinner. Merle informed me that Billy Shore had bought a new
Klim Helmet at Renze’s and the visor did not make the trip back. Billy came
out and had half a visor left on his 3-hour old Klim helmet. He was hit by a
low hanging branch 3 miles from the Buckhorn. Yep, Shakedown ride.
