Saturday, we had a bit of a change up in our groups with John and Tori
heading out with Bill for the off-trail ride and me picking up three more.
My group headed east out 431 then some two tracks to the Eagles Nest
for our first break. Afterword we hit 431 again to trail 9. Once we hit 9
the trail went to crap (moguls) and the traffic got crazy. More times than I
care to mention I about bit it with a hotrod burning around a corner in my
lane (Are there lanes on a trail?). Many near misses and we finally pulled
into Newberry’s Timber Charlies for lunch. Has anyone ever mentioned
how good their food is there? After lunch I got off of 9 as soon as possible.
I took a 2-track but came to a tree as big around as a Ford across the trail
about a mile in and even though my sled was able to limbo under the mas-
sive chunk of wood, those with taller windshields just could not make it.
That turn around cost us about 20 minutes with the depth of the snow
back in that section (Not complaining).
Further up I got off the trail a few more time and ended up on my favorite
bunny trail. It’s a little one-track (Ya, its small) that connects 9 and 431
just shy of the cutoff to the Eagles Nest on the east side. That trail needed
a bit of trail maintenance as well (thanks to my trusty power saw!) That
evening we got together for a pass a dish that was a little lack-luster I must
say. Sara brought some kick-butt soup
and I roasted a ham. We had some crackers and cheese and that about
sums up the feast. We all walked away full though so there is that.
Sunday a small group of seven; Jann and I, Sara and Randy, Joe, Gavan and
Cole; headed out for a day of playing in the fresh foot of snow. We head-
ed out 43 to the Fox River Rd then burned that up to Mahoney Lake Rd.
That is where the fun began. I was plowing snow the entire way across the
Mahoney Plains with snow billowing up and over my windshield. I
stopped to let everyone play in the deep snow.
