April 2011 Presidents Message
Can someone please tell me where our snowmobile season has gone; I swear it seemed it was just last week when I was running down my favorite trail at the cottage while enjoying a few pops and laughs with some fellow members. The season usually starts with us waiting and waiting for the snow to fall, and as soon as it comes it seems to disappear, leaving us wanting more and more. Many of us just wanted one more weekend before the season came to an end; this is usually the case for many snowmobilers. Many people complain that winter is too long, but for us, we never get enough.
To recap our season, we had some ups and downs. The club offered thirteen rides this past season, with five of them having to be canceled, due to poor snow conditions or other reasons. To keep other rides from being cancelled, some members had to make adjustments and head to other locations to get their rides in. Many areas of the state which normally receives great snow didn’t receive the really deep snow we’ve become us to.
I’d like to thank all of our ride coordinators and the work they put in this year, so everyone could enjoy our favorite season; our hats are off to each one of you. Without them, there would have been no rides scheduled.
As many of you know, we had a new member involved in a serious snowmobile accident on February 5TH in the Pelleston area. Because of her injuries, Linda has been moved down to Ann Arbor from Pelston, so she can get the much need care she will need. Linda has made positive improvements after the accident, and I ask for everyone to continue to keep Linda in your prayers; we’ll keep everyone current on her condition as news becomes available to us.
As we bring this year’s season to an end, the club will return to Santia Hall for this year’s wonderful Trails End Banquet. Santia Hall has become our unofficial club house over the years; there have been many great memories from past banquets over the last ten years. Members have been awarded the Trail Master of the year, alone with the popular Jay Pine award, which many of us have held before. This year’s banquet will bring fun along with another great night of memories, entertainment, and storytelling by many from the past season.
These events wouldn’t be possible with out the dedication, determination of our recreation committee. Many thanks to Mike and Wendy Leppek, and Dave and Laura Gabriel for all their hard work, I ask everyone to please thank these members the next time you see them. On another note, this will be the last issue of the Snomad news letter for the season; our many thanks to our editor Brian Wright and his daughter Jamie. I (we) appreciate their hard work, and commitment to providing the club with a great year of correspondence. Your contribution and dedciation is difficult to express in words for me.
In closing, we have completed our 26th Snowmobile Season, I often think about all those past rides, and locations the Snomads have visited. The unforgettable parties, picnics, camping trips, golf outings, and the many friends we have been fortunate to have made over the years (seasons). As members of this very respected and well regarded club throughout our beautiful State of Michigan. We all can agree in two words, simply
