Sled Restoration / Club Restoration
With today’s technology we can buy or reproduce any type of part for any-
thing, including old snowmobiles. Last year I inherited an old Yamaha Phazer LE
snowmobile from my aunt. This sled has been covered in a barn for 18 years, so
I thought, what do you do with this? After looking the sled over, I tried to pull
the engine over, but it was locked up. Before I threw it in the trash, I wondered
if I could restore this with my grandson. My goal was to see if he is interested in
mechanical things, and teach him the use of tools. We started with the engine.
We pulled the engine out of the sled and placed it on the work bench. While
removing the plastic fan tubes that enclose the head assembly. We discover the
largest mouse condominium in the fan assembly that I have ever seen. Turns
out, the engine wasn’t seized at all, we just needed to remove the mouse motel.
Our next step is to power wash the complete sled, and make a shopping list,
(Sport Mart is going to love me). This project is going to take some time, and I’d
like to add some photos of the sled as we progress on this project, (maybe a
snomad story). When we restore something, we bring it back to it’s original
condition, or update it. You may ask, what does this have to do with the club?
Last month members were sent a questionnaire asking for feed back and ideas
for the future direction of the club. (Too modernize it). The board is responding
to those questionnaire's, this year’s General Meeting will include ATV rides
along with a new location. I also checked out the SnomadS updated web site,
and it looks great. (Thanks Marty for all your hard work) With all of the mem-
bers feed back we received, I know the board will have some nice changes in
the future. I just hope the old Phazer comes out just as well.
See Everyone in Wolverine at the General Meeting / Camp-out.
