Summer 2012 Presidents Message

While summer is in full swing, and many of us are enjoying these hot days either alongside a pool, lake, or for the lucky ones, on their boats. Myself, I spent a few days on Torch Lake with some of my fellow Snomads enjoying the fruits of our state.

With everyone enjoying the summer weather, this is also time to get started on our 28th season. Club ride coordinators are starting the process of organizing trips, booking motels, and reserving locations for our up-coming snowmobiling season. Our recreation committee is in the planning stages for our clubs family picnic which will be held on August 4 th. The board has also been working on the annual general membership meeting which will include the annual election of club officers.

As you can see; we have very little time between seasons to make sure we have things in place for our members and their families so everyone can have an enjoyable snowmobile season. The past twenty seven years has been accomplished by many volunteers who desire to give back to our club and their sport. The club is now at the crossroads where many of our past volunteers are resigning or would like to step down after many years of service and dedication. Many are getting older and would like to retire. This will allow those who wish the opportunity to step up. I have served the club as president for the last two years, and have served in other ways for the last twelve years because I enjoy giving back. But, I can totally understand those that wish to pass the baton on to others. Our club is now in need of your help, we have several positions that need to be filled by other volunteers. The position of club treasurer will need to be filled in the next few weeks. We have been asking for help in this area for six months now and still have no one in place. In September, there will also be an open position for a trustee as well. We are also in need of safety class instructors and volunteers for the recreation committee. The recreation committee plans parties and other events for the club. If that isn’t enough, there’s the very important task of new ride coordinator’s. If more members don’t get involved in the near future, we’ll have a very hard time to sustain a quality ride schedule for our members. Many of our coordinators just can’t do it anymore, so I ask you… Are you willing to start giving back to your club? Serve on the board; spend a few hours planning a party. Take members on one of your favored trails, or teach our future snowmobiler’s. As a volunteer myself, I can contest that it’s not very hard work and it really doesn’t take up much time. It is very rewarding seeing others enjoy your contributions and efforts. I encourage each one of you to take a moment, and ask yourselves “what I can do?”

In the coming weeks we will gather at the Pontiac State Recreation Park in Waterford for our annual picnic. I will indulge in laughter, good food, and enjoy a few games of horseshoe. I’ll be looking forward to talking with those in attendance and answer any question you may have before joining the ranks of our volunteers. Enjoy the summer, Only 135 days until trails open…
