January 2013 – President’s Message

One of the hot button issues that the Board has had to deal with this year has been the issue of absentee balloting.

Once upon a time, the vast majority of the membership lived in the tri-county area and making the Annual General membership meeting was not a problem. Fast forward to 2011. With the internet and promotion of the Snomads reaching not only those in outlying counties, but in several states as well, the time has come to address this issue.

Today we can boast having members from Texas to the far reaches of the U.P. Including members in Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana. Just this week we received an application from Wisconsin.
What this means is, that to expect our members not living within a 40 mile radius to have to drive to Waterford to be a part of the decision making process is not only unreasonable, but unfair.

Last year the issue of absentee balloting resurfaced and due to the considerable response to the survey, the Board had no choice but to address this once and for all.

To put this procedure into motion, required a great deal of work. The only way to implement this is to change certain sections of the Club bylaws. The Board put in a lot of hours to make the necessary changes and we have compiled these changes into a ballot proposal that will be mailed to each member in the near future.

We will be mailing the proposals out in February. As is the case with any bylaws change, read the proposals thoroughly.
