The next step is to remove the exhaust, and don’t forget to plug the y-pipe,
and remove the windshield and seat, any loose wires you may have un-
plugged, put them in a plastic zip bag. And give your sled a good washing. If
your sled is older and has a black pipe, clean and repaint it with black barbe-
que paint, and the exhaust will look good if you must raise the hood during
         the season.
The next step would be to remove both clutches and clean them using sim-
ple green and a soft brush, and take it from me, don’t use your wife’s kitchen
sink. Boy does that make them MAD, use a cleaning tub. After the cleaning is
complete, lay both clutches on a clean towel. While cleaning they suggest
you make sure all the components are moving freely, the rollers in the pri-
mary move freely, and the weights move freely as well. If it’s been a few
thousand miles since your last clutch inspection, you may want to replace
the primary and secondary springs, as they wear from use and heat this will
change the rate of the spring. Now myself, I have never removed, or rebuilt
my clutches on my sled. I don’t have the necessary tools to do the job, so if
you’re like me, you may want to just remove them and sent them to a deal-
er, or clutch shop to have it done. If your experienced, then this is not a hard
         task to perform.

While the clutches are off, don’t forget to check the belt. Inspect it for exces-
sive wear, flat spots, cracks, or any other signs of damage. You can also
measure the belts width and check it to your manufacture spec’s.

What about the chain case you ask, well now would be time to drain out that
old oil and replace it, but that’s not all? Remove the cover and inspect the
chain, make sure there aren’t any broken links and check for excessive wear.
If possible, move the track to make sure the gears are ok, nothing cracked or
damaged. If everything looks good, adjust the chain tension, loosing the ad-
justing nut, and tighten the tension bolt by hand, then tighten the nut. Clean
the chain cover, and refill with fresh chain case oil. Make sure you fill the oil
before going any further, you may forget, I don’t want anyone spending their
shakedown ride at the Buckhorn and crying in their beer, so fill it before do-
         ing anything else.
